I started working at Edit upon our soft opening at the end of 2022, following the shutdown of one of my long-time favorite breweries in Durham, NC. While I began my journey with the team as a bartender, that segued in constant discussion about design opportunities for the future, and how we could set ourselves apart as a brand, be it our quality of beer, merchandise, branding and taproom environment. You name it, we've probably discussed it over a brew several times over.
Nearing the end of 2023, Brian, Angela, and Jack gave handed me the reigns to focus on our graphic design for the future. If you stumble across my portfolio, you'll see I have a certain fondness for collage.
Being able to create can labels for Edit has been more fun than I can imagine, and as we grow as a brewery I'm excited to share my upcoming design work with fellow beer enthusiasts far and wide.
Stop in and grab a beer, say hey and check out everything we have to offer!
This is an experimental piece I finished over the last several weeks focused on my long-standing waveform study, collaging & neo-traditional tattoo design emphasized through black & white ink work.
I tried using 15 different ink drawings, all representative of differing stages of life cycles, representing what I perceive as coexistence (or harmony), aiming to create something that encompassed the duality of life & death through Symbiogenesis.
Each of the 15 drawings are freehand-drawings using a combination of reference images from personal photographs and stock. Every piece starts as a concept in Photoshop, and once finalized drawn on watercolor paper in ink, whereafter they're hand cut, scaled and set on varying sized of hard & soft foam board.
Grand total this piece took me roughly 70 hours over 13 days to finish.
Check out the Reel below to see a time-lapse into parts of the creation process.
